in the know

the who:

No. I’m not talking the band here. Sorry for any disappointment.

Actually, I thought I’d introduce myself. I’m not sure how many people will actually make it to this page. Heck, I don’t know how many people will even make it to my blog, but for those fair few of you that do, you shouldn’t go wanting.

So, who am I? I’m a recent grad from university, and I’m a self-proclaimed writer. Okay. I guess I’m not that self-proclaimed. Nor am I starving. I’ve got a pretty decent paying job to write articles and blogs, and it’s a lot of fun for right now. I’ll probably end up keeping it for awhile because:

  1. I like it so much.
  2. I can stay in my pajamas and drink hot chocolate while I work if I want.
  3. People are always in awe when you tell them you’re a freelance writer. Oooh.

Anyway, aside from writing, I dabble in photography and design. You could probably call me a poser right now, because I don’t even own anything better than a little point and shoot, but once upon a time, I had access to many, many cameras for a whole semester, and I was the boss. So I’m not a total phony.

On the design front, I’m actually pretty decent with print (I’ve even had a company steal a logo I designed!), but the web is entirely over my head (at least for right now)! As it turns out, if you want to have any kind of credibility as a designer, you better dang well know html, css, xml, php, and the list goes on and on. I’m really lame and am taking an html course online right now.

Wow. You’re still reading? Impressive.

Last, but not least, I’m married and I have a kid. I put this one last for good reason. I really like being married, and my kid is awesome, but I have far too many friends who define themselves entirely by being wives and mothers. There’s nothing wrong with that for them, but I’ve always been stuck on myself, and how I want to do as much of everything as I can before I don’t have the chance anymore. Don’t hate me.

the what:

This blog is definitely going to be a work in progress. I actually had about a month’s worth of content on here already, but there was absolutely no direction, so in a mad frenzy I deleted everything I’d written. Hopefully what ends up on here the second time around will stick for awhile.

After thinking about what I’d like to blog about most, I came up with a few things:

  1. Random life experiences: Because, really, everyone has them, right?
  2. Product reviews: I spend far too much time on the internet learning about products before I’ll shell out the cash. I figure my experiences, good and bad, might (just might) help someone, somewhere. Or maybe that’s just me trying to make myself feel good. Eh.
  3. Photography: I plan on getting my Nikon D40 (probably-I might still opt for a Canon) pretty soon, and I’ll be having a blast trying new things. You will be lucky enough to watch my progress (snicker).
  4. Anything else I feel like: This is my blog. You do realize that, don’t you? I can write about whatever the crap I want, thankyouverymuch.

If you like what you read, maybe you’ll come back. If you don’t, you won’t. Like I care.

Ok, fine. I really do care. I just have this need to please people. Tell me what you don’t like and if I think you’re right, you might just inspire change. Not an easy task when it comes to hard-headed bloggers.

the when:

I’ll probably write whenever I want. Usually that means in the wee hours of the morning, because I’m you’re average night owl. That doesn’t mean you have to prop you’re eyes open with toothpicks while you wait for my latest pearls of wisdom, though. I promise, all the posts will still be there in the morning.

 Sweet dreams, Starshine.

the where:

Well, since I’m a freelancer (I’m pretty proud of that, can you tell?) I can pretty much roam all over the planet if I want to. For all you know, I could be posting about my favorite band while sightseeing in Britain, the latest girly gadgets on the beach down under, or whether I think skiing or snowboarding is easier while icing my bruised tailbone in Idaho.

That last one is probably the most likely of the three.

It’s true. I live in the land of potatoes. What I keep telling myself, though, is that it’s only temporary. In fact, that’s my mantra: it’s only temporary, it’s only temporary.

One day I’ll get around to traveling the globe (first class, no less), but for now, Idaho it is, and it’s really not as bad as it sounds.

the why:

Oh come on. Do you really have to ask?

Blogging is fabulous for me because I can spout off what I think about virtually anything. Granted, I’ll probably run into plenty of people who love me and plenty who hate me (probably more of those), but going on and on (and on) about what I like and don’t like is strangely therapeutic.

You are here because you have the best taste in blogs. And maybe you love me, maybe you hate me. Either way, it’s no use harboring such strong emotions. Click that little comments button and share you’re feelings with the world! If nothing else, I’ll have read what you posted.

the end:

I guess that’s about it for now. I’m sure I’ll update this page when things change (like when I get the heck out of Idaho), so it might be worthwhile to check back periodically. Or not. Whatever.

Ciao.
